Primary schools include infant schools, junior schools, infant & junior schools and pre-preparatory schools. Hertfordshire has a wide range of primary schools so you should find a school that is suitable for your children in terms of location, age and any specific needs.

Primary schools accept children in the 4 to 11 age band. Infant schools tend to accept children aged between 4 to 7 while junior schools normally accept children in the 7-11 age band. Pre-prep schools accept 5 to 7 year olds.

Primary schools are normally run by either the local authority or through grant-aid. Either way, you can find out more about a school through reading the OFSTED report. Where possible we have linked each Hertfordshire primary school to the appropriate OFSTED report.
