View our list of Hertfordshire's secondary schools
Secondary schools are either run through the local authority or are private. The fees for private schools vary tremendously, though funding towards school fees is sometimes available.
Secondary schools normally cater for those aged between 11 and 18. Study towards GCSE exams normally takes place until the age of 16. Sixth form centres cater for study towards A levels, when students are normally aged between 16 and 18.
Secondary schools can be either mixed, girls only or boys only.
Some secondary schools only provide education up to GCSE level, while others contain a sixth form centre where students can remain to study for A levels.
Secondary schools are normally run by either the local authority or through grant-aid. Either way, you can find out more about a school through reading the OFSTED report. Where possible we have linked each Hertfordshire secondary school to the appropriate OFSTED report.
One of Hertfordshires best known schools is Haberdashers' Aske's School. "Habs", as the school is affectionately known, is situated in south Hertfordshire, near to Borehamwood and Elstree.
