The remains of Houghton House lie about 1 mile north of Ampthill, in Bedfordshire.
This stately home was originally built in the 17th-century but fell into ruins about 200 years ago. It is reputed that Houghton House was the "House Beautiful" in John Bunyons Pilgrim's Progress.
