Free swimming this August... (21st July 2010)
Young Watford residents can once again swim for free at both Watford Central and Watford Woodside leisure centres throughout August thanks to Watford Borough Council.
The scheme was agreed by Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, following the success of last year’s trial.
Mayor Thornhill said: “Once again I am very pleased to offer our younger residents, aged 18 and under, the chance to swim for free this summer.
“This is not to be confused with the former government’s ‘free’ swimming initiative, which we opted out of. This is our own school holiday scheme for the young people of Watford, which we have set the parameters for, meaning it is affordable and within our budget!
“Last year’s pilot was very popular and I hope this year even more young people will get the health benefits of a good swim.”
Free swimming during August is open to all Watford residents aged 18 and under. Swimmers will need to apply for an Everyone active card and bring proof of residency and photographic ID. Children under 12 will need a parent or guardian present to sign the application form.
