Broxbourne Borough Council invites new volunteers to join the adopt a street scheme...(22nd February 2011)
Broxbourne Borough Council is inviting residents, schools and businesses to take a pride in their local environment and join the adopt-a-street scheme.
To date, 132 active volunteers assist the community in keeping their respective neighbourhoods clean and tidy in between the scheduled cleanses carried out by the Council.
The adopt-a-street programme aims to encourage the community to care for the local environment. The scheme encourages volunteers to pick up litter in their street, outside their shop or on the ‘litter trail’ from their school between scheduled cleanses. The Council provides litter pickers, gloves and sacks to aid volunteers and will collect the group’s ‘pickings’ at the end of the day.
For more information about the scheme, or to join, residents, businesses and schools can telephone the Council on 01992 785577 or visit the ‘Street Care and Cleaning’ page in the ‘environment and planning’ section on the Council’s website www.broxbourne.gov.uk.
