St Michael's Manor Hotel - £½ million refurbishment ahead of schedule at St Alban's favourite hotel...

(21st March 2011)

The new orangery, known as the Lake Restaurant, at St Michael’s Manor Hotel will re-open more than a week ahead of schedule on 3rd April 2011 … just in time for Mother’s Day.

Slightly larger than the old conservatory, the orangery offers even more diners improved views over the fabulous gardens and lake whilst integrating more sympathetically with the main building. Dining capacity will be increased from 90 to around 120.

“We’ve gone for a slightly more modern-classical style that is still in-keeping with the traditional design of the building and, of course, enhances the comfortable atmosphere we’re famous for,” stated Geoff Goddard, Marketing Manager.

Along with the redecoration many of the furnishings and décor throughout the ground floor of the hotel have been refreshed. Specially commissioned pictures of two famous local landmarks will be main features at the back of the restaurant as well as an original painting in the Cedar Suite.

“The positive reaction to the improvements from visitors has been amazing and many guests have also given us some stunning reviews. To add to this we’ve recently had an excellent report from Quality in Tourism. This was during all the renovations and before the work was finished! Credit for all this is mainly due to the staff for the outstanding service they’ve been providing," continued Geoff.

The huge investment of £½ million during a difficult economy is a bold move but the Newling Ward family is extremely confident in their product and investment, especially after three generations have owned and run the hotel during the last 45 years. The extensive redecoration programme will continue with a refurbishment of twelve bedrooms over the next 18 months.

It’s no coincidence that the new restaurant will reopen with a new A La Carte menu. Exciting new dishes have been created by talented young Head Chef, Daniel Park to compliment the usual classics, as well as the regular weekly favourite ‘Lake Menu’. Celebratory dining offers will available on the web site from 2nd April.

And there’s more… a new Hotel Manager, Richard Marrett, will be introduced on 21st March who brings a wealth of experience from the luxury five star Stafford Hotel in London and the Crazy Bear Group. Exciting times ahead indeed…
