Calling all media savvy people!(7th February 2012)
Are you a social media whizz? Do you have a good knowledge of public relations / journalism? Could you spare at least a day a week to gain some valuable work experience? If so, the team at the Hospice of St Francis in Hertfordshire would love to hear from you!
The Assistant Press Officer volunteer will be responsible for handling media enquiries, developing a PR calendar, analysing coverage and writing press releases for publication in the media, via social media and on the Hospice website. There will also be responsibility for taking photographs, organising filming, arranging press interviews and promoting fundraising events. This role will manage social media including monitoring and engaging with key media and influencers on a local and national level.
Excellent writing and IT skills are required. You will be a good team player, organised, with an eye for detail and can adapt to challenging deadlines. Strong relationship building skills will be needed for liaising with journalists. You will need to have an understanding of public relations or journalism with strong social media skills. Experience of writing press releases, commentary and articles would be an advantage.
The Hospice of St Francis cares for very seriously ill people from across West Hertfordshire and the Chilterns. It supports children and their families and looks after people in their own homes. Last year around 700 people were supported by the hospice at it's Berkhamsted based inpatient unit. Care is given to peoplefrom St Albans, Harpenden, Redbourn, Markyate, Chesham, Amersham, Abbots Langley, Great Missenden, Bovingdon, Dacorum and surrounding villages.
