Happening Hertfordshire is 2012 party hub...

(13th April 2012)

With less than a month to go before the deadline for Diamond Jubilee street parties closes, community spirit in Hertfordshire is soaring.

With two months to go before the nation celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Hertfordshire residents are still the top street party organisers with 160 applications. Together, we have requested more road closures for street parties than any other local authority.

St Albans looks set to be the Hertfordshire party hub this year as residents have requested over a quarter of the total applications across the county.

The deadline for street part road closure applications is Tuesday 1 May 2012. There is still time to get your community together and plan your own celebration to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Rob Smith, Assistant Director of Transport Management, said: “Hertfordshire residents have shown over the years they know how to throw a party. We had over 300 events across the county in 2011 for the royal wedding and to see a similar number this year would be amazing.

“There is no charge for closing minor roads for community events so this is a perfect opportunity to get your local community together and celebrate the Jubilee in style. With both the Jubilee and the Olympics taking place this year, we hope that this summer is the season for celebrations in Hertfordshire.”

Residents can submit their applications for a street party road closure to Hertfordshire Highways by visiting www.hertsdirect.org/diamondjubilee. Parties can be held on Sunday 3, Monday 4 or Tuesday 5 June 2012.
