Pathway improvements to be made in Hatfield...(20th July 2012)
Work to install a new pedestrian and cycle route along the B197 Wellfield Road between A1001 Comet Way roundabout and The Common roundabout will begin on 23 July and last eight weeks.
The £320,000 project will see the existing pathway running alongside Wellfield Road widened to allow for both pedestrian and cyclist use. The work will be carried out by Hertfordshire Highways with 24hr traffic management in place.
A one way system will be put in place to allow traffic flow through Wellfield Road with one lane remaining closed for the duration of the works. Access will be maintained into and out of the fire station and affected properties at all times.
Stockbreach Road will be closed at the junction with Wellfield Rd for the duration of the works. Access will be from the Lemsford Road.
Signed alternative routes will be in place. Residents and businesses in the area are being written to with full details.
Further details about the works, including road closure and diversion information, will be available on www.hertsdirect.org/roadworks.
Stuart Pile, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "These works will complement the existing network of cycle paths in Hatfield and help encourage further cycling in the town.
"Some degree of disruption and delay is to be expected as a result of these essential maintenance works. The work has to be carried out while the road is closed for the safety of our workers and all road users, so please allow extra time for any journeys you make while work is in progress."
The work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances can arise. Any changes to the proposed start date, duration or working hours will be announced on the information boards on site and will be available at www.hertsdirect.org/roadworks.
Additional works to upgrade a refuge island and install a casualty reduction scheme are also planned for the area. These works will take place in September and further details will be available soon. Related categories Other local information
