Olympic success for Hertfordshire gymnast...

(1st August 2012)

As Team GB start to make their mark on the medal table, Hertfordshire is celebrating the bronze medal won by Hemel Hempstead gymnast Max Whitlock in the team competition.

“The Olympics have got off to a brilliant start and we’re incredibly proud to have an Olympic medallist from Hertfordshire,” said County Councillor Derrick Ashley, Hertfordshire County Council's Olympics spokesperson. “Congratulations to Max and all his team-mates on this historic result. It’s also great news that Max has reached the pommel horse final – we’ll all be rooting for him on Sunday afternoon.”

The pommel horse final is due to start at 3.40pm on Sunday 5 August.

There will be more local interest this week as cyclists Laura Trott (from Cheshunt) and Victoria Pendleton (who went to school in Letchworth Garden City) take to the track. Plus all this week Hertfordshire has been hosting the canoeing and kayaking events at the Lee Valley White Water Centre.
