Award-winning pupils have fun day on high seas...

(9th August 2012)

A group of Hertfordshire pupils had a day to remember aboard a 19th Century Clipper tall ship as part of their prize for winning a national competition this week.

The pupils took part in the ‘Good to Know You Awards’ run by Hertfordshire Education Supply Service together with global HR company, Randstad to find the country’s Good Citizens.

Five pupils from Hertfordshire schools were among 20 children chosen as winners and received an award aboard The Clipper Stad Amsterdam during a fun filled day in London.

The youngsters were awarded the prize after being nominated for their excellent behaviour and work at school. A number of the winners have had to overcome illness and health problems whilst others have demonstrated exceptional support for their local community.

The day included lunch onboard with the Captain and tour of the ship.

Frances Button, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “It is wonderful to see that pupils from Hertfordshire have done so well and won these awards. Our schools support pupils to be good citizens and help in their local community and its great to this work rewarded.”

The Clipper, owned by Randstad, provides training and internships for the unemployed and during its construction, provided work experience and training for 138 people.

Hertfordshire Education Supply Service manages the recruitment of supply teachers and support staff for Hertfordshire County Council.
