Lights, Camera, Election(28th April 2003)
A camera crew from Anglia TV descended on the Borough Offices on 24th April to record Broxbourne’s latest development of e-technology at the forthcoming local elections. The occasion was the dress rehearsal for the electronic counting of votes, which will take place across all wards on 1st May.
The electronic count is one of a small number of e-pilots approved by the government. Bar coding, printed onto the voting slips, enables counting to be conducted electronically rather than manually. As a consequence, results will be available more quickly and with an assured accuracy. The software was developed in-house by the Council at minimal cost.
This is the third time that Broxbourne’s proposals have been selected as a national e-pilot, and the first time that every vote will be counted electronically.
The recorded footage will form part of Anglia’s TV coverage of the local authority elections and will be screened on the six o’clock news on either the Monday or Tuesday before the election. Related categories Councils and government
