Godmanchester 2 - Arlesey Town 0

(23rd September 2003)

Arlesey Town Ladies faced Godmanchester in their first away game of the season.

Arlesey set-off playing a good passing game. Within the first 5 minutes they had had two shots on goal and won two corners. Defensively Arlesey were coping with Godmanchester's counter attack style. But on the 15th minute a cleared ball from the Arlesey defence fell to a Godmanchester player and was pushed back into the area and picked up by an opposition player who shot from a few yards out. Stand-in keeper Becca Hart was forced to watch the ball pass right by her feet.

Arlesey now knew that they had an up-hill battle ahead. Arlesey continued to try and play their passing game but were finding it difficult to make the pass into the final third really count. As Arlesey chased the game they must have notched about 20 shots on goal but just couldn't find the back of the net.

As Arlesey got weary from chasing the game they inevitably started to see passes going astray and conceded possession to Godmanchester. The defence which had been a bit disorganised last week were solid throughout most of the game lead by man of the match Ellen Harmer. Ellen collected, manager's oppositions and player's player of the man accolades. But right at the death the Godmanchester striker managed to slip round the defence and score at the near post.

Manager Lol Pike had asked for 20% more from all the players than their disappointing game last week. He got more than 20% in every department except goals! Arlesey Town know that they just have to find their shooting boots to put them on a winning track.

Arlesey have a two week break and face their next opposition of Cotenham away on 5th October.

Arlesey Town Ladies are always looking for new players, if interested please call Maria on 07769 932641.
