Local Youngsters Filmed at The John Warner Sports Centre (27th July 2004)
Eleven local children from Burleigh Primary School in Cheshunt participated in Olympic style challenges for an episode of UP2U, a children’s programme on Children’s ITV (CITV). The programme screens on Sundays on ITV1 from 27 June for 13 weeks.
The youngsters participated in 5 events including: Melon Shotput, relay racing in giant wellies, a long jump event, human hurdles (leapfrog), and a backward hopping race. The teams were divided into boys versus girls. The winning team received ‘gold’ medals at the end of the events.
The producers chose the grounds at The John Warner Sports Centre because of its size and variety of outdoor sports surfaces. The filming took place on Wednesday 21st July and the programme will be aired in the next 8 weeks.
The borough is becoming a favourite location for this series. This is the second episode filmed in Broxbourne, following a quiz episode filmed in Cedars Park in June. The first series of ‘UP2U’, which was screened last year, won a Royal Television Society Award for Best Children’s Programme.
