BBC Apprentice Star Makes an Impact on Hertfordshire Young Professionals Network

(5th April 2005)

Miranda Rose, star of the hit BBC2 business reality series The Apprentice, proved to be a real winner with the crowd when she appeared as special guest speaker at the second Hertfordshire Young Professionals Network event.

Following a successful January launch at the Sun Hotel in Hitchin, the Business Development Unit at North Hertfordshire College wanted to give members of the Hertfordshire Young Professionals Network something a bit special for their second event, which took place on Wednesday 23rd March at 6.30pm in the Broadhall Suite at Stevenage Borough Football Club. Delegates enjoyed complimentary food and drink, plus networking opportunities and a motivational speech from Miranda.

BBC2’s The Apprentice - currently airing on Wednesday evenings - has captured the imagination of television audiences, giving viewers an insight into the cut-throat world of business. The series sees 14 young high-fliers, shortlisted from thousands, battle it out through a gruelling selection process and compete for a dream £100,000, year-long job with self-made tycoon Sir Alan Sugar.

Sir Alan’s acerbic put-downs to the wannabe tycoons and his nail-biting firing sessions in ‘the boardroom’ have proved to be a winner with viewers, who are tuning in in their droves.

Miranda Rose, the third business guru to leave the show, was the perfect choice for guest speaker for the event. At the tender age of 26, she has already set up an estate agency of which she is the managing director, previously owned a successful mail order company, funded her own exhibitions company and completed a fire walk over 25 feet of red hot embers burning at temperatures in excess of 1,200 degrees! Members of the network were inspired by Miranda and her exceptional achievements in the business world at such an impressive age.

Miranda commented: “I really enjoyed coming along and speaking to the group and it built my confidence to know that they took such an interest in the show and asked questions so pertinent and business-oriented. They even took notes while I was talking, which was great!”

The Hertfordshire Young Professionals Network – it’s what you know and who you know.
