Stars Come to Hatfield House

(22nd June 2005)

Leading characters from BBC’s “The Archers”, plus top celebrity chefs will be amongst the stars appearing at the first Hatfield House Country Show to be held at the historic Hertfordshire venue from the Friday 19th to Sunday 21st August this summer.

Trevor Harrison, who plays Eddie Grundy, and Hedli Niklaus, who plays Kathy will be chatting to visitors and signing autographs as they visit the huge array of stalls, displays and demonstrations - all offering genuine country fare and activity. There will even be an Archer’s Addicts stand for the keen enthusiast!

Food and cookery feature high on the agenda with celebrity chefs Anthony Worrall-Thompson, Prue Leith and Amanda Grant demonstrating their culinary skills at various times in the Underwoods’ Cookery Theatre on the showground. There will also be a magnificent range of fresh and prepared foods to taste and buy, courtesy of an extensive Farmers’ Market and a range of specialist food suppliers. Farm-made sausages, home-cured bacon, soups, pies and traditional pastries will all be on sale as well as fine wines and farmhouse cheeses.

Traditional country crafts will also feature strongly, while garden plants and other rural pursuits will be widely displayed. Those interested in the livestock side of country life will find many breeds of sheep, pigs, poultry and other animals as well as displays of falconry, Shire and other heavy horses, and hounds in the main arena. An ideal opportunity to see such animals in action will be the special display to be given by the British Heavy Horse Driving Team. With a hands-on children’s farm, hot-air ballooning Fiesta (weather permitting), steam engines, clay pigeon shooting and a great range of other activities, the event promises to be a great day out for the whole family.

Commenting on the event, Lord Salisbury, of Hatfield House - himself a keen farmer and pig breeder says:

“This is the first Hatfield House County Show. Located as we are, on the fringes of city and countryside, our theme will be “Town Meets Country”. We believe it’s a wonderful opportunity for people to relax and enjoy a real slice of country life, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the extensive parkland of Hatfield House”.
