Cassiobury Park consultation
(24th August 2006)
Watford Borough Council is planning to submit an application for a Green Flag award for Cassiobury Park next year, and will shortly be consulting with park users before drawing up a management plan.
The Green Flag award is a nationally recognised quality mark and indicates a park which is on the way up. Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “Many local people already know about Cassiobury Park and are rightfully proud of it. We hope that if we gain the Green Flag Award, it will help towards spreading the good news about this jewel in Watford’s crown and encourage more residents into the park. Personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing the Green Flag flying above Cassiobury Park in 2007.”
MRuk Research were successful in their bid for the research contract, and will be completing questionnaires with users and residents over 5 days at the end of the month.
From Wednesday 23 until Sunday 27 August, from 9am until 5pm, researchers will be located outside Café Cha Cha Cha and adjacent to the enclosed paddling pool area. There will also be roving consultants covering the entrances to the park. The Council recognises how important Cassiobury Park is to Watford, and encourages residents to get involved in this crucial consultation process.
When the Green Flag judges assess a park, they work to a set of key criteria looking at safety, sustainability, community involvement, maintenance and management. Researchers will be asking residents what they think of the park currently, what they use it for and which areas need to be improved upon. All the information collected will help the Council’s Parks section to formulate an inclusive and representative management plan.
Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag status, meaning the Council must continue to maintain and improve on previous standards to be guaranteed the award in subsequent years.
