Haileybury becomes an SII accredited training provider(13th November 2006)
Haileybury, an independent co-educational boarding school in Hertfordshire, has become the first school to be awarded accreditation as a training provider by the Securities and Investment Institute (SII).
This follows the launch of Haileybury’s International Finance Programme in October, which enables pupils to explore the world of the City.
Ruth Martin, MD of the SII, announced the accreditation during a function at Haileybury on Monday, 30 October 2006, during which the pupils participated in the Merrill Lynch Investment Trading Game.
Jonathan Cohen, Head of Economics at Haileybury, says that becoming an accredited training provider means that the school will be able to open its course to a wider audience.
“The SII promotes high standards of competence and integrity among its members and within the industry as a whole. The fact that Haileybury is part of this lends enormous credibility to our course,” he says.
Forty pupils – 26 from Haileybury and 14 from three local secondary schools, Simon Balle, Richard Hale and Presdales - were selected for the International Finance Programme, which includes a series of seminars covering the essential aspects of the investment industry, presentations from leading City professionals, an on-line equity investment competition and a tour of the City’s pre-eminent financial institutions.
During the course, students will be given the opportunity to experience life in the City at first hand through a series of work placements at leading investment banks and the programme will culminate in the award of a professional investment qualification recognised throughout the City and in financial centres worldwide.
This is believed to be the first time an independent school in the UK has offered the Securities and Investment Institute (SII) accredited qualification to its pupils. It is recognised by QCA as equivalent to Level 3 on the National Qualifications Standard Framework and will also soon be awarded a UCAS points value.
The course is being run by Mr Cohen and Mr Ed Church, who has 14 years City experience, having been a senior trading floor expert for several US investment banks.
The course is supported by a number of high-profile corporate partners from the City, including BPP Financial Education, the UK’s leading financial training provider. Related categories Education
