Excitement is growing ahead of the official opening and launch day of the new Watford Leisure Centre – WOODSIDE, to be held on Saturday 7 June.

Special guests Sharron Davis, Olympic and Commonwealth swimmer, and Richard Haughton, Saracens rugby player, will help open the centre and also take part in the many activities on offer throughout the day.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, said: “Looking around the completed centre, it is clear that local residents now have access to facilities that are unrivalled in the local area.

“With the opening of Woodside and the forthcoming completion of the new Central leisure centre a new era of leisure and sports facilities have come to Watford.

“The new centre is as close in quality to a private club facility as you can get, without impacting on our great value membership fees.”

Duncan Jefford, Contracts Manager for SLM said: “The idea behind the open day is to try and get both adults and kids to try as many different types of activity as possible.

“By running demonstrations throughout the day we hope that we may inspire some of the kids to start up a new sport and maybe even become the Olympians of the future.”
