Dunstable is situated in Bedfordshire, a few miles north of Hertfordshire. Nearby towns include Luton (5 miles east), Harpenden (8 miles south east), Tring (9 miles south west), Berkhamsted (9 miles south), Hemel Hempstead (9 miles south) and St Albans (12 miles south east).
Dunstable's historic past is still evident in the buildings in some parts of the town. Much of modern Dunstable is a mixture of residential and business use.
The Dunstable Downs separate Dunstable from Hertfordshire and these hills provide excellent walks and views. London Gliding Club is situated at the base of the Downs. On the Downs is Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, situated about 3 miles south of Dunstable towards Hemel Hempstead.
