Ayot St Lawrence is a lovely little village on a hill surrounded by beautiful countryside that is good for walking and cycling. The village was made famous due to its former resident, George Bernard Shaw, who lived in his house - Shaw's Corner - until his death in 1950. The house is now preserved by the National Trust and is open to the public.
The popular village pub, The Brocket Arms, serves good beer, fine food and has a beer garden. It also provides bed and breakfast and holiday accommodation.
Ayot St Lawrence is one of three "Ayots" in the area - see also Ayot Green and Ayot St Peter.
