Hoddesdon is situated in the east of Hertfordshire. Nearby towns include Broxbourne (1 mile south), Cheshunt (4 miles south), Ware (4 miles north) and Hertford (4 miles north west).
Hoddesdon town centre is a conservation area with many fine buildings surrounding the Clock Tower, a brick structure built in 1835 on the site of the Chapel of St Katherine which had been erected in 1336. In the present Clock Tower is a bell that was given to the Chapel in 1510.
Also surrounding the Clock Tower is the main shopping area. This includes local shops, estate agents, restaurants and pubs. Just down from the Clock Tower is Hoddesdon's nightclub, The Oasthouse. About 1 mile south is Broxbourne Civic Hall which shows films as well as theatrical productions.
Paradise Wildlife Park is situated 2 miles west of Hoddesdon and is highly popular with children. To the east of Hoddesdon is Lee Valley Park, an extensive park with walks, cycling, watersports and boating. At one of the entrances to the park is Rye House Gatehouse which you can visit. There is also a RSPB bird sanctuary nearby.
