Luton is situated in Bedfordshire, a few miles north of the Hertfordshire border. Nearby towns include Dunstable (5 miles west), Harpenden (5 miles south), Hitchin (7 miles north east) and Welwyn Garden City (10 miles south east).

The Luton of old is still visible in and around the city - the impressive Luton Hoo mansion and estate are situated on the southern edge of the town. Luton today is a busy town with significant employment from Vauxhall and various business parks. London Luton Airport is situated just east of the town.

Luton Train Station is on the Thameslink line into London Kings Cross, providing commuters with a 35 journey into London. Luton Airport Parkway primarily serves those getting to and from the airport. A third station, Luton Leagrave, serves Luton's Leagrave suburb.

The town has good shopping facilities, including the Arndale shopping centre. For leisure and entertainment there are plenty of pubs in the town, along with a cinema and nightclubs.

You can walk and relax in Stockwood Park where there is also a golf course. The park sometimes holds concerts in the summer.

Luton was once the centre for UK hat manufacturing and there are still a number of milliners in the town. In recognition of this, the nickname of the towns football club - Luton FC - is "The Hatters".
