Watton At Stone is an attractive village situated just off the main road that runs from Hertford and Ware (5 miles south) to Stevenage (5 miles north-west).
As you enter the village from the Hertford end, you will see the church of St Andrew and St Mary across the fields. Also at the entrance to the village is the war memorial.
Alongside the church is the village recreation ground, situated on The Meadow. Two floodlit tennis courts are run by Watton At Stone Tennis Club while the recreation ground is used by Watton At Stone Cricket Club in the summer. Watton Sports & Social Club is based in a modern building on the edge of the recreation ground.
The village stretches along the High Street with pubs and village shops dotted along its length. There are 3 pubs in the village with The George & Dragon and The Bull situated near to each other at one end while the Waggon & Horses is situated at the other. Village shops include a small supermarket, post office and take-away restaurant.
The village has a nursery school and a primary school. Just outside the village is Heath Mount School, a highly respected co-educational day and boarding school, that is situated on the road to Hertford and Ware.
The village is popular with commuters as it has its own train station with regular trains into London.
