The village of Welwyn is not to be confused with Welwyn Garden City, a large town several miles south that was developed in 1920.
Welwyn has some charming buildings and is the site of both Iron Age and Roman settlements. These settlements formed a resting place on the Great North Road which now runs through the High Street.
Welwyn village is a highly attractive village with good local shops, pubs and restaurants. An excellent restaurant which is very popular with residents is The Stable Door, situated on the High Street.
The remains of the Roman Baths
are preserved in a steel vault near to junction 6 of the A1(M).
