Bishop's Stortford is an ancient market town in East Hertfordshire, situated on the county border between Hertfordshire and Essex. Sawbridgeworth is located about 4 miles south of Bishop's Stortford while Hertford and Ware are about 10 miles west. Cambridge is about 25 miles north with central London about 25 miles south.
The town has many fine buildings, including 16th and 17th century inns and the remains of a Norman castle. The town has street markets on Thursday and Saturdays. The River Stort runs through the centre of the town, its path closely followed by the railway line that runs from London to Cambridge.
